Through their various interactions, they bond. It's a worthwhile tale just drawn out a bit in the middle. I enjoyed it. I hope you might too! Dec 25, Ester rated it it was amazing. All her ex boyfriends are married and she can't seem to meet or keep any of the career men she's set up with. Then, suddenly, a strange but beautiful man comes to her and informs her that he's Djinn-a genie, and that he will grant her 2 wishes.
Grey's Anatomy showrunner surprised at 'cruelty' of fans who hate Meredith's new relationship
After a few glances of scotch she doesn't entirely believe his crazy story and makes an offhand wish about finding her true love. The Djinn tells her that's a wish he can't grant but she is adamant that's it's true love no nothing. The hero is a genie on thin ice. He's in the bosses bad books because of a sloppy job previously and without a successful and speedy completion of this assignment, he'll be downsized- aka wiped from existence.
When this beautiful but lonely woman wishes for her true love, he knows he can't give it to her but he refuses to admit defeat. So, he stays with her, buttering her up with little freebie wishes- risking punishment in the process- and slowly realizing the stunning truth that he's coming to care for her. It's forbidden and doomed to think of falling in love with her but he can't seem to help himself. He sees her push men away in fear of getting hurt but in the process, she's only hurting herself. Still, seeing her with the few men that spark an interest in her makes him envious.
The heroine, smiling and enjoying life for the first time in a long time can thank her helpful genie for it. At first she thought him rather inept and he's not the best genie in the world but she comes to depend of him. He's a source of comfort to her as well as motivation to enjoy the successes she has rather than always seeking out the next. But not matter what, they are destined for heartbreak. She wished for her true love and he is forbidden to give it to her This book wasn't horrible, I will say that much.
The problem was, it was neither memorable or particularly exciting or interesting. I kept waiting for something to happen and it never did. The whole book was spent around meetings and lunch dates and lackluster humor.
I grew bored with it quite quickly. The heroine took to the notion of having a personal genie far too easily and never really questioned the sudden paranormal being in her life. Plus, she was a massive dick about her wishes. Knowing he was on a time line and if he didn't succeed he would be x'd out, she still insisted on true love and nothing else.
I guess she had everything else she wanted but hell, just wish for boat or something and let the poor genie free. While I could stand him most of time, I couldn't get behind the dull romance or the slow and uneventful plotline. There was some humor but it wasn't special and actually most of the book was childish and pointless.
In the blurb at the back it states that this was the authors first published novel and it shows. It wasn't polished and lacked a spark that shows a talented future career. Sorry, bout it.
